Goddess Lakshmi  

Goddess Lakshmi is seen as a very beautiful woman of Gold colored complexion sitting on a lotus or standing on a Lotus and with 4 hands. Two hands are holding two lotus and third hand holding pot with gold coins. Hand holding Lotus bud depicts purity, beauty and fertility. Her four hands represent four ends of life which are
Moksha or Liberation from cycle of birth and death
Dharma or Righteousness
Artha or wealth
Kama or desires

Lakshmi Devi

The Gold coins flowing from Lakshmi Devi hands suggest that those who worship Goddess gain wealth. Laxmi Devi is seen wearing Gold red clothes with embroidery. Gold lining represents prosperity and red symbolizes activity. Laxmi Mata is the active energy of Lord Vishnu. She appears as Lakshmi-Narayan.

Two elephants stand next to Goddess and spray water. This denotes that continuous effort, with respect to one’s dharma and governed by knowledge and purity leads to both spiritual and material prosperity.

God Lakshmi is worshiped by every Hindu and is highly regarded by businessmen, women and traders. Goddess Laxmi has become the household name and people pray to Goddess daily. On Diwali Festival Lakshmi God is worshiped and Laxmi Puja vidhi is performed. It is believed that she visits each house and blessed her devotees with wealth, and so it is named as Lakshmi Pujan day. In the evening of Lakshmi Pujan, people light up their houses brightly with beautiful Diyas and keep their doors open as they believe that Goddess Lakshmi will walk into their houses where she lights.
